I earned my PhD in Plant Quantitative Genetics from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) in July 2017. The Dutch Ministry also awarded me an OKP scholarship to study Agribusiness at Wageningen University, the Netherlands. My research addresses the strategic need to improve crop quality in Pakistan. I investigate crop stress response mechanisms and develop molecular maps to support crop improvement. I have participated in and managed several federally funded research projects in Plant Biotechnology in Malaysia, established a Plant Tissue Culture laboratory at BUITEMS, and led a major floriculture project in Balochistan. As part of this initiative, I conducted training sessions in rural areas, introducing floriculture as a viable means of generating income. Today, several women are engaged in cut flower cultivation, contributing to their household incomes. During my PhD, I received a doctoral fellowship from UTM and, later, the OKP scholarship from the Dutch Ministry.

Development of hybrid wheat varieties based on a CMS-Rf system for high yield in barren agriculture of Balochistan
PAKISTAN INNOVATION FUND (PIF) MINISTRY OF PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT & SPECIAL INITIATIVES, National , Funded , 2024, Ongoing

The food security problem needs to be addressed through the development and transfer of new technologies. Balochistan, the largest province of Pakistan, faces significant food security challenges. It requires the production of 900,000 metric tonnes of wheat to feed its 12.34 million inhabitants. The key requirement is to identify novel sources of genetic variation to develop superior wheat cultivars. Using the CMS-Rf system, the identification of RF genes for fertility restoration in wheat lines with T-CMS is a crucial step towards hybrid seed production in wheat. Useful dominant genes can be incorporated to produce heterozygous genotypes that result in unique characteristics to meet market needs and production demands.

To develop potato seed using a transgenic approach with fungal and viral tolerance. To date, there are no available methods to control viral diseases, and chemical fungicides are toxic to humans, animals, and the environment. Seed made available to farmers after successful approval and commercialisation will minimise farmers' concerns.

Cultivar identification and assessment of hereditary traits or genetic purity of hybrid seeds are crucial for the crop industry to develop an effective strategy for confirming wheat variety labelling and product composition. The molecular approach using SSR markers enables authentication of wheat for uniformity and quality, while maintaining the genetic purity of seed for crop production and the supply of pure hybrid seeds.
