This study explored why Pakistani TV news channels prioritize radical over peace-oriented journalism. Through 40 in-depth interviews with 20 leading journalists and 20 media academics, the research investigated structural, professional, and cultural drivers of media radicalism. Findings revealed that commercial pressures and rating battles make violent and sensational stories more attractive than peace narratives, while political economy influences and ownership agendas reinforce radical frames. Journalists described how newsroom cultures normalize sensationalism and lack training in peace journalism, whereas academics stressed the need for ethics and responsibility. The study noted the absence of institutional support for peace journalism, which remains marginalized as incompatible with market-driven logics. Applying the frameworks of media radicalism and peace journalism, the study found TV radical narratives dominate due to commercialization and political interests in Pakistan.
